Carol Han Ping
Carol is a research fellow with the Singapore-Delft Water Alliance and is currently
working in the Aquatic Science Centre (ASC) Pandan project. One of the aims of the
project is to build a comprehensive knowledge base on the water quality improvement
and monitoring capabilities of plants and animals. Her area of research is focused
mainly on the investigation of the bioremediation abilities, such as nutrient cycling,
pollutant removal and sediment stabilization, of aquatic and terrestrial macrophytes.
With the establishment of the outdoor research facility at the Pandan canal, her
work will include field studies on the role of macrophytes in urban wetland systems.
Carol graduated with a PhD from the National University of Singapore having majored
in Cell and Molecular Biology. Her research interest lies in plant physiology and
genetics and she has worked on a range of plants including ornamental and crop plants.
Her research work, which involved molecular cloning and gene expression studies
as well as the generation and study of transgenic plants, has been published in
the Journal of Experimental Botany.
