Ellis Penning
Ms. Ellis Penning has been working for Delft Hydraulics as an
aquatic ecology for 6 years and is currently undertaking her PhD
‘ecohydromorphology of shallow lakes’. She focuses on the
interaction between organisms (specially macrophytes and
bivales). She is specialised in defining the linkages between
aquatic ecology and related environmental aspects, including
impact assessment of freshwater habitats using multivariate
analysis and ecological modelling. She also worked in several
European projects regarding the implementation of the Water
Framework Directive and has been involved in research on the
sustainability of cyclic floodplain rejuvenation, the development of
a general concept for setting international Environmental Flow
Requirements, in which river systems have been classified using
the ecotope concept to the broader functioning of the rivers, and
the effects of urban developments and spatial planning on the
sustainability of Dutch aquatic ecosystems.
